Celebrating Women’s Achievements in Tanzania’s Financial Sector: TBA Women Event 2024

The Tanzania Bankers Association (TBA) recently organized a dynamic event to celebrate and empower women in the financial sector. Held on March 4th, 2024, at Omono Hotel in Dar es Salaam, the TBA Women Event brought together female professionals from across the industry under the theme of “Inspire Inclusion.”

The event featured insightful discussions on three crucial topics:

  1. Lifelong Planning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Participants explored the importance of ongoing learning and career development for women in finance. Speakers highlighted the need for women to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving industry. Strategies for accessing training programs, mentorship opportunities, and professional networks were shared, aiming to equip women with the tools they need to advance their careers.
  2. Courage: The significance of courage in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities in the financial sector was emphasized. Women shared their personal stories of resilience and determination, inspiring others to embrace courage in their professional journeys. Discussions delved into strategies for building confidence, managing fear, and taking bold steps towards career advancement. Participants were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, embrace risk-taking, and advocate for themselves in the workplace.
  3. Inspiring Inclusion: The need to ensure that no woman is left behind in the pursuit of success and equality within the industry was a central focus. Panel discussions explored barriers to inclusion faced by women in finance, including gender bias, discrimination, and lack of representation in leadership roles. Strategies for promoting diversity and creating inclusive work environments were discussed, with an emphasis on allyship, mentorship, and organizational policies that support gender equality. Participants were encouraged to advocate for systemic change within their organizations and communities, striving to create opportunities for all women to thrive.

Mr. Geofrey Mchangila, Vice Chairman of TBA, opened the event by calling for concrete action from women in the banking industry. He highlighted the importance of supporting girls’ education, promoting women’s representation in leadership roles, and ensuring accessibility to financial services for all women.

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Ms. Brenda Msangi, CEO of CCBRT Hospital and founder of Dear Girl Child. Ms. Msangi underscored the pivotal roles that women play in various aspects of society and stressed the importance of a strong support system, including the active involvement of men in championing gender equality. She emphasized the virtues of commitment, persistence, consistency, and discipline in achieving success.

In closing, Ms. Msangi urged women to choose courage over fear, emphasizing that fear can hinder progress and achievement.

The TBA Women Event 2024 served as a powerful platform for women in the financial sector to connect, learn, and inspire each other towards greater achievements and inclusivity.
