TAMFI & TAREA: FOSTERING THE RENEWABLE ENERGY MOVEMENT THROUGH FINANCIAL COLLABORATION
DAR ES SALAAM
Bridging finance and green innovations, the Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI) and the Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) have formed a strategic alliance. Their shared vision? To pave the way for financial solutions that promote renewable energy accessibility, especially within Tanzania’s underserved communities.
Ms. Winnie Terry of TAMFI affirmed, “Our era is powered by renewable energy. Partnering with TAREA propels us closer to a world where these solutions are financially within reach for everyone.” Dr. Matthew Matimbwi of TAREA added, “Solar’s growing presence is a beacon of sustainable growth for our nation. Our combined efforts with TAMFI aim to brighten this beacon, promising a brighter, greener future.”
While TAMFI leads microfinance initiatives, TAREA’s two decades of commitment have illuminated Tanzania’s path to sustainable energy. Together, their collaboration is more than symbolic; it’s a promise of actionable change, enabling communities to harness green energy solutions effectively.
The renewable energy wave in Tanzania is undeniable. With solar systems and mini-grids gaining traction, this partnership aspires to harness this energy for transformative community impact.
FinScope Tanzania’s rich insights into the nation’s financial trajectories further illuminate this initiative’s path. Their comprehensive data underscores the potential lying within Tanzania’s financial landscape, lending credibility and direction to the TAMFI-TAREA endeavor.
The initiative invites everyone, from policymakers to the general populace, to recognize, support, and drive this renewable energy evolution.
E-LICO Foundation, with its dedication to energizing rural Africa, played a pivotal role in the discussions. Their initiatives, from lending solar setups to farmers to promoting solar-powered essentials, have fueled hope across regions. Tulibako Mwansasu from E-LICO reflected, “Our vision transcends mere electrification. We aim to empower businesses, ensuring sustainability even in areas with limited electricity access.”
Furthermore, the Don Bosco Training Center, aligned with TAMFI since 2018, is bridging the solar skills gap with specialized training programs. Having trained over a thousand youths and preparing for another graduation, they are undoubtedly pivotal in shaping solar’s future in Tanzania.
Tanzania’s renewable aspirations are backed by its rich resource base and governmental commitment to source half its electricity from renewables by 2030.
