Dar es Salaam, June 29, 2026

The Bank of Tanzania has reaffirmed financial education as a cornerstone of financial inclusion. Speaking at the Financial Education Forum in Dar es Salaam, Deputy Governor Sauda Msemo responsible for Financial Stability and Deepening (FSD), highlighted that financial inclusion has reached 76%, driven by mobile services. She noted that while awareness of broader financial opportunities remains low, ongoing education programs including the certification of 1,736 trainers nationwide, are rapidly improving knowledge. These efforts align with the Financial Sector Development Master Plan and the Third National Financial Inclusion Framework (NFIF III), positioning financial literacy as a strategic driver of formal financial service uptake.

Supporting Government Efforts

In support of the government’s drive to expand financial inclusion across Tanzania, the Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI) actively participated in the forum. TAMFI has been a pioneer in delivering financial education to low-income earners and has partnered with Tanzania Women Architects for Humanity (TAWAH) to provide tailored financial literacy programs for women builders and entrepreneurs.

Beyond the forum, TAMFI has extended financial education initiatives to districts in Dodoma, Tanga, Mbeya, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Manyara, and Kilimanjaro, ensuring grassroots access to knowledge. Additionally, TAMFI continues to disseminate financial education through its monthly newsletters, reaching a wide audience nationwide.
